If you are wondering, where I get my information about web technology. These are the places I use very regularly.
Google Search
I use Google Search nearly daily. Especially if get stuck in a problem and cannot figure out what’s going wrong. Most of the time someone else had a similar issue and posts a solution or hint.
YouTube is not just for cat videos or conspiracy theories. It is a treasure trove of excellent trainers and tutorials. YouTube is the 2nd biggest search engine of the world after Google Search. Just use the search bar to dive into the huge world of web technology.
Some of the trainers have more detailed tutorials on the training sites Udemy or Skillshare.
Udemy is a training site to buy tutorials about a huge variety of topics covering Reiki, dog training, electronic circuit design, programming languages ….. Here you can find a tremendous number of courses about every kind of web technology you can think of.
Normally the courses are pretty expensive, but don’t pay the regular price which can go up to $199,99. Just register and wait till Udemy sends you a mail regarding there special spring, summer, autumn, winter, back to school, Black Friday … sale. These sales are very often and go for a couple of days. Now you can buy most of the courses for $9.99 🙂 .
Each course page has a detailed description, list of contents, preview page and reviews. Just listen into the previews, some of the trainers have a difficult accent to follow (at least for my ears and brain). Udemy also offers a no questions asked 30 day money back policy.
Over the time, I’ve collected a large set of Udemy trainings. It’s good to know that most of the trainers update their trainings to adapt to changes of the software. Or they offer you special sales or free access to their new courses. The trainers are very responsive to questions and some of them run large groups on Facebook too.
You can view the Udemy trainings on your web browser, phone or tablet. In the Apple IOS or Android app you may download a complete course or part of a course for offline viewing during your stay in rural areas or on an air plane.
And if you wonder, “Is Udemy just for English speaker only?”. No you can find find courses in Dutch, Hindi …. German too.
Skillshare is a training site which runs a different business model. You pay a yearly fee of currently 96,00€. This gives you a full access to all the courses on Skillshare without asking for extra money.
The range of topics is like Udemy, but don’t expect the same level of variety and options. Some of the trainers from Udemy offer the same or similar courses on Skillshare too.
The viewing experience through the web browser or app is similar to Udemy. The app includes a download option too.
I use Skillshare regularly since a couple of years. Sometimes I check if an Udemy course I’m interested in is available on Skillshare for free 🙂 . Or I look for courses from more unknown trainers who are only on Skillshare.
Other Places
Over the years, I’ve used other training sites like Pluralsight or safaribooksonline from O’Reilly. But at the end, each day has only 24 hour and YouTube, Udemy and Skillshare cover all the topics I’m looking for.
I hope this overview is helpful or at least interesting for you.
Best regards
Fritz
